Tree Yoga School · Practice beside a tree
American Elm · About five minutes
Make room.
Read once, then give your attention to the tree. Spend a few minutes, or less if that suits you.
Find a comfortable place.
Sit or stand on stable ground in a permitted place, keeping your usual supports. A bench, wheelchair, or accessible path is enough. Keep paths clear and let your breathing stay natural. There is no need to touch the tree.
Settle into support
Choose permitted, stable ground away from damaged limbs. Sit or stand with your usual supports and keep your head and neck comfortable. Let your breath follow its natural pace.
Begin with one branch
Find a branch or small patch of bark at an easy viewing angle. Notice its line, texture, or light for a few ordinary breaths.
Widen the view
Gradually include nearby branches, the canopy outline, and a little of the surrounding scene. Let sounds be present too. Return to one detail whenever that feels helpful.
Carry some room with you
Bring to mind one situation that could use a little space or patience. Choose a modest response, such as listening longer or leaving a pause before answering. Finish with a look at the whole scene.
An optional five minutes
You can practice without a timer. Start it when you are ready to turn your attention to the tree.
5:00
Silent by default. Begin whenever you like.
Keep this page open for the closing sound. A locked screen or backgrounded browser may delay it; the time will catch up when you return.
When you are ready
What changed when your attention had more room?
Reflect quietly, or write a sentence in your own notebook. Let the visit be enough.
