Tree Yoga School · Practice beside a tree

Pin Oak · About five minutes

Follow one clear branch.

Read once, then give your attention to the tree. Spend a few minutes, or less if that suits you.

Find a comfortable place.

Sit or stand on stable ground in a permitted place, keeping your usual supports. A bench, wheelchair, or accessible path is enough. Keep paths clear and let your breathing stay natural. There is no need to touch the tree.

  1. Find a comfortable view

Sit or stand with your usual supports on stable, permitted ground. Stay clear of damaged limbs and falling acorns. Choose a branch you can see without craning your neck.

  2. Trace a line

Follow the branch with your eyes from its junction toward one small twig. Let your breathing continue naturally. If the view is crowded, choose a shorter section.

  3. Notice the spaces

Include one opening beside the branch. Allow both the line and the space to be visible. Return gently when your attention wanders.

  4. Choose one direction

Bring a task to mind and name its next small action. Leave room around that action for ordinary needs. Widen your attention to the tree before finishing.

An optional five minutes

You can practice without a timer. Start it when you are ready to turn your attention to the tree.

5:00

Silent by default. Begin whenever you like.

When you are ready

What became clearer when you followed one part?

Reflect quietly, or write a sentence in your own notebook. Let the visit be enough.
