The practice.
You need a certain type of tree for this move. Find a tree that has strong horizontal branches. Do not use a branch that cannot support your weight. This can cause injury, as well as damage to the tree. Wrap the gymnastics rings around the branch so that they hang down, and adjust the height to give yourself enough space. Grab on to the rings, and lift the feet off the ground. On an exhalation, slowly pull yourself up towards the branch. On an inhalation, slowly lower yourself back down to the starting position. Practice for several rounds of breath, going through the full range of motion.
Original book text by Alex Julian. Line wrapping and page breaks have been normalized for reading on the web. Personal accounts and energetic interpretations remain part of the original text.
Make the practice fit you.
This is a reference entry, not a required step in a beginner course. Use a comfortable range, keep breathing naturally, and stop if a movement hurts. Inversions and suspended exercises need appropriate instruction and equipment; a tree is not a certified anchor.
