The practice.

There are so many ways to practice planks. There are a myriad of expressions and variations — all with their own awesome benefits. Whichever of the different types of planks you decide to practice, ideally you want to do it close to a tree. That way, you not only strengthen the body, but you also improve your energetic health by being in the tree’s positive electromagnetic field. Some examples of planks you can practice include the traditional plank, the forearm plank, the side plank, and the alternate-opposite balance plank. Practice planks often, and always maintain a steady breath.

Original book text by Alex Julian. Line wrapping and page breaks have been normalized for reading on the web. Personal accounts and energetic interpretations remain part of the original text.

Make the practice fit you.

This is a reference entry, not a required step in a beginner course. Use a comfortable range, keep breathing naturally, and stop if a movement hurts. Inversions and suspended exercises need appropriate instruction and equipment; a tree is not a certified anchor.
