Tree Yoga School · Practice beside a tree

Butternut · About five minutes

Observe. Learn. Care.

Read once, then give your attention to the tree. Spend a few minutes, or less if that suits you.

Find a comfortable place.

Sit or stand on stable ground in a permitted place, keeping your usual supports. A bench, wheelchair, or accessible path is enough. Keep paths clear and let your breathing stay natural. There is no need to touch the tree.

  1. Meet this individual

Choose stable, permitted ground clear of damaged branches. Sit or stand with your usual supports. Notice one tree and the plants around it without trampling roots or undergrowth.

  2. Record one observation

Choose a visible detail and describe it plainly to yourself. If useful, make a brief note or take a photograph from the path. Separate what you see from a guess about disease or age.

  3. Ask a stewardship question

Consider what you would need to learn before helping: the species, who cares for the site, or which local conservation program offers guidance. Leave that question open if the answer is not yet available.

  4. Choose informed care

Pick one modest next step, such as consulting a regional tree guide or learning about a local butternut conservation effort. Do not move nuts, wood, or bark between sites. Widen your attention and finish.

An optional five minutes

You can practice without a timer. Start it when you are ready to turn your attention to the tree.

5:00

Silent by default. Begin whenever you like.

Keep this page open for the closing sound. A locked screen or backgrounded browser may delay it; the time will catch up when you return.

When you are ready

What small act of care could begin with better understanding?

Reflect quietly, or write a sentence in your own notebook. Let the visit be enough.
