Tree Yoga School · Practice beside a tree
Chinkapin Oak · About five minutes
Three clues. One unhurried look.
Read once, then give your attention to the tree. Spend a few minutes, or less if that suits you.
Find a comfortable place.
Sit or stand on stable ground in a permitted place, keeping your usual supports. A bench, wheelchair, or accessible path is enough. Keep paths clear and let your breathing stay natural. There is no need to touch the tree.
Choose one visible feature
Settle on stable, permitted ground with your usual supports. Find a leaf still attached to an accessible branch, or look at the bark from a distance. Leave living growth untouched.
Describe before naming
Quietly name three visible qualities: an edge, a color, and a shape. Use ordinary words. If you cannot see a detail clearly, let it stay unknown.
Look a second time
Return to the same feature and notice one thing your first description missed. Then compare it with another feature of the tree. Keep breathing naturally.
Carry the distinction
Consider one decision in your day. Identify something you know and something you still need to learn. Choose a modest way to gather that missing information, then widen your attention and finish.
An optional five minutes
You can practice without a timer. Start it when you are ready to turn your attention to the tree.
5:00
Silent by default. Begin whenever you like.
Keep this page open for the closing sound. A locked screen or backgrounded browser may delay it; the time will catch up when you return.
When you are ready
What changed when you gave your first impression another look?
Reflect quietly, or write a sentence in your own notebook. Let the visit be enough.
