Tree Yoga School · Practice beside a tree

Giant Sequoia · About five minutes

A wider scale. One small detail.

Read once, then give your attention to the tree. Spend a few minutes, or less if that suits you.

Find a comfortable place.

Sit or stand on stable ground in a permitted place, keeping your usual supports. A bench, wheelchair, or accessible path is enough. Keep paths clear and let your breathing stay natural. There is no need to touch the tree.

  1. Find an easy viewing angle

Choose stable ground in a permitted place, with your usual supports. You do not need to see the top or tilt your head back; a visible section of trunk is enough.

  2. Take in a larger form

Notice the outline of the trunk or a group of branches. Let the eye travel only as far as is comfortable, without estimating an age from size.

  3. Rest with a small pattern

Choose a bark line, a patch of foliage, or an opening against the sky. Give that detail a few natural breaths of attention.

  4. Return to your own scale

Move once more between detail and wider view. Name one patient next step in something you care about, then let the visit end.

An optional five minutes

You can practice without a timer. Start it when you are ready to turn your attention to the tree.

5:00

Silent by default. Begin whenever you like.

Keep this page open for the closing sound. A locked screen or backgrounded browser may delay it; the time will catch up when you return.

When you are ready

What changed when you gave the large form and the small detail equal attention?

Reflect quietly, or write a sentence in your own notebook. Let the visit be enough.
