Tree Yoga School · Practice beside a tree

Pacific Madrone · About five minutes

Let the surface tell its season.

Read once, then give your attention to the tree. Spend a few minutes, or less if that suits you.

Find a comfortable place.

Sit or stand on stable ground in a permitted place, keeping your usual supports. A bench, wheelchair, or accessible path is enough. Keep paths clear and let your breathing stay natural. There is no need to touch the tree.

  1. Settle at an easy distance

Choose a permitted, stable viewpoint with your usual seat or supports. Avoid stepping onto roots or into planted areas to get closer.

  2. Follow a color boundary

Trace a visible border between bark colors or textures with your eyes. If bark is distant, choose a leaf or branching curve.

  3. Notice without intervening

Let a few natural breaths pass while you observe. There is no need to touch, rub, or remove bark to understand the pattern.

  4. Carry an appreciation

Name one detail to remember and one change you can allow to take its own time. Widen your view and end at your own pace.

An optional five minutes

You can practice without a timer. Start it when you are ready to turn your attention to the tree.

5:00

Silent by default. Begin whenever you like.

Keep this page open for the closing sound. A locked screen or backgrounded browser may delay it; the time will catch up when you return.

When you are ready

What did you learn by allowing change to remain undisturbed?

Reflect quietly, or write a sentence in your own notebook. Let the visit be enough.
