Tree Yoga School · Practice beside a tree

Pitch Pine · About five minutes

Begin again beside a pitch pine.

Read once, then give your attention to the tree. Spend a few minutes, or less if that suits you.

Find a comfortable place.

Sit or stand on stable ground in a permitted place, keeping your usual supports. A bench, wheelchair, or accessible path is enough. Keep paths clear and let your breathing stay natural. There is no need to touch the tree.

  1. Arrive on the path

Choose stable, permitted ground in suitable weather, clear of damaged limbs. Sit or stand with your usual supports and leave fragile barrens vegetation undisturbed.

  2. Find one living detail

Notice a needle cluster, a small shoot, or a patch of bark without touching it. Let your breathing remain natural.

  3. Make room for a beginning

Bring to mind something you would like to resume or start. Name a support you need; there is no need to feel strong or interpret the tree’s scars.

  4. Return with care

Choose one small beginning and one act of care for the place, such as taking your litter home. Widen your attention before returning along the path.

An optional five minutes

You can practice without a timer. Start it when you are ready to turn your attention to the tree.

5:00

Silent by default. Begin whenever you like.

Keep this page open for the closing sound. A locked screen or backgrounded browser may delay it; the time will catch up when you return.

When you are ready

What could beginning again look like if it included support?

Reflect quietly, or write a sentence in your own notebook. Let the visit be enough.
