Tree Yoga School · Practice beside a tree

Silver Maple · About five minutes

Let another angle in.

Read once, then give your attention to the tree. Spend a few minutes, or less if that suits you.

Find a comfortable place.

Sit or stand on stable ground in a permitted place, keeping your usual supports. A bench, wheelchair, or accessible path is enough. Keep paths clear and let your breathing stay natural. There is no need to touch the tree.

  1. Settle in a suitable place

Choose calm weather and stable, permitted ground away from damaged or overhanging limbs. Use a comfortable seat or stance; a distant view is welcome.

  2. Watch one small area

Notice a leaf cluster as light or breeze changes it. In still weather or winter, compare a lit and shaded part of a branch without moving from your supported position.

  3. Hold two descriptions

Name two things you can see that belong to the same scene. Give both room in your description. Let your breath continue at its ordinary pace.

  4. Make room for a revision

Think of a situation you have seen from one angle. Name a useful question you could ask or one detail you could check. Finish with that modest intention.

An optional five minutes

You can practice without a timer. Start it when you are ready to turn your attention to the tree.

5:00

Silent by default. Begin whenever you like.

Keep this page open for the closing sound. A locked screen or backgrounded browser may delay it; the time will catch up when you return.

When you are ready

What did a second angle add to your first impression?

Reflect quietly, or write a sentence in your own notebook. Let the visit be enough.
