Tree Yoga School · Practice beside a tree
Sycamore · About five minutes
A detail and a wider world.
Read once, then give your attention to the tree. Spend a few minutes, or less if that suits you.
Find a comfortable place.
Sit or stand on stable ground in a permitted place, keeping your usual supports. A bench, wheelchair, or accessible path is enough. Keep paths clear and let your breathing stay natural. There is no need to touch the tree.
Find a comfortable view
Choose a permitted place on firm ground, clear of hazardous branches. Sit or stand with your usual supports; you can explore both scales from one position.
Notice one patch
Choose a visible bark patch. Describe its color, edge, and neighboring texture without touching or peeling it.
Widen your attention
Let your gaze include the trunk, then the crown and surrounding place. Keep your neck comfortable and breathing natural. Notice what the close view left out.
Bring both views along
Think of one situation in your day that might benefit from attention to detail and context. Choose a useful question, then finish the visit.
An optional five minutes
You can practice without a timer. Start it when you are ready to turn your attention to the tree.
5:00
Silent by default. Begin whenever you like.
Keep this page open for the closing sound. A locked screen or backgrounded browser may delay it; the time will catch up when you return.
When you are ready
What did the wider view reveal, and what did the small detail preserve?
Reflect quietly, or write a sentence in your own notebook. Let the visit be enough.
