Tree Yoga School · Practice beside a tree

White Spruce · About five minutes

Notice the space between.

Read once, then give your attention to the tree. Spend a few minutes, or less if that suits you.

Find a comfortable place.

Sit or stand on stable ground in a permitted place, keeping your usual supports. A bench, wheelchair, or accessible path is enough. Keep paths clear and let your breathing stay natural. There is no need to touch the tree.

  1. Choose a comfortable view

Sit or stand with your usual supports on a permitted route. Choose foliage you can see without leaning into branches or straining your neck.

  2. Describe one detail

Silently name a color, an angle, or a pattern of needles. Keep the description simple; you do not have to settle an identification today.

  3. Look at an opening

Move your attention to a patch of sky or light between branches. Let your view alternate gently between the branch and the space around it.

  4. Return with a question

Choose one detail to recognize on your next visit, or one question to research later. Finish by including the whole setting.

An optional five minutes

You can practice without a timer. Start it when you are ready to turn your attention to the tree.

5:00

Silent by default. Begin whenever you like.

Keep this page open for the closing sound. A locked screen or backgrounded browser may delay it; the time will catch up when you return.

When you are ready

What became clearer when you made room around one detail?

Reflect quietly, or write a sentence in your own notebook. Let the visit be enough.
