Tree Yoga School · Practice beside a tree

Yellow Birch · About five minutes

Look closer. Leave the layers.

Read once, then give your attention to the tree. Spend a few minutes, or less if that suits you.

Find a comfortable place.

Sit or stand on stable ground in a permitted place, keeping your usual supports. A bench, wheelchair, or accessible path is enough. Keep paths clear and let your breathing stay natural. There is no need to touch the tree.

  1. Choose a view

Find a permitted place on firm ground where you can see the trunk comfortably. Use your usual seat or standing supports. A distant view is enough.

  2. Describe three details

Notice a color, a line, and a texture. Keep bark attached; do not peel or scratch it to discover what lies underneath.

  3. Look again

Return to your first detail and notice whether the light changes your description. Let your breathing remain natural and your interpretation stay open.

  4. Keep one question

Consider something familiar in your day. Choose a question that could help you see it more clearly, then finish the visit without needing an answer.

An optional five minutes

You can practice without a timer. Start it when you are ready to turn your attention to the tree.

5:00

Silent by default. Begin whenever you like.

Keep this page open for the closing sound. A locked screen or backgrounded browser may delay it; the time will catch up when you return.

When you are ready

What did a closer look add to something you thought you knew?

Reflect quietly, or write a sentence in your own notebook. Let the visit be enough.
