The register behind the map

Dates, sources & coverage.

DFFM 2023 champion roster · retrieved October 11, 2026 · dated snapshot

139 records are included in this imported selection. 138 have approximate map points; 1 remain searchable without a marker. Multiple trees can share one town or county point.

Register editions, retrieval dates, and individual measurement dates describe different things. This snapshot does not confirm current tree condition. Approximate map points do not locate individual trees or establish permission to visit.

How this register was selected and mapped

139 distinct tree IDs from all 143 numbered champion entries on PDF pages 34–37 of the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management’s 2023 Magnificent Tree Annual Report, retrieved October 11, 2026. Four repeated IDs are consolidated. Cork oak AZ0098 uses its newer 2022 measurement; its differing 2004 measurements are documented in the record details. Different IDs remain separate, even when species or measurements repeat.

This is a dated 2023 snapshot. The 2024 report describes additions across several categories, and the 2025 report could not be read; neither is treated as a complete roster update. State, national, and co-champion labels remain as published in 2023. Current condition, titles, and visiting access are unverified. The separate Heritage/Witness appendix is excluded; dual designations in the champion appendix are retained.

138 records use 11 approximate Census county points. One record supplies no county and remains searchable without a marker. These points represent counties, not individual trees. Published names, measurement years, decimal measurements, and scores are preserved; circumference is in inches, height and full crown spread in feet. One inconsistent score is flagged in the details. Nominator names and exact tree positions are omitted.
