The register behind the map
Retrieved October 7, 2026 · live register snapshot
369 records are included in this imported selection. 369 have approximate map points; 0 remain searchable without a marker. Multiple trees can share one town or county point.
Register editions, retrieval dates, and individual measurement dates describe different things. This snapshot does not confirm current tree condition. Approximate map points do not locate individual trees or establish permission to visit.
Virginia Tech’s current State Champions list, retrieved October 7, 2026. Every entry was checked against its individual record for an alive status and explicit Virginia Champion designation. Multiple designated trees within a botanical category are retained. The live list is newer than the January 2026 PDF; that PDF also includes trees outside the champion selection.
Names, measurements, measurement years, published points, and national labels are preserved. National labels report Virginia Tech’s designation, not independent confirmation of current national standing. Each card links to its original record. Public visiting permission is not inferred from a champion designation.
All 369 records span 281 published botanical categories and map to 86 approximate county or independent-city points from the Census Bureau’s 2025 Gazetteer. Cities remain separate from similarly named counties. Tree GPS coordinates and personal owner/contact details are not imported.
