The register behind the map
Minnesota DNR current champions · retrieved October 9, 2026
62 records are included in this imported selection. 62 have approximate map points; 0 remain searchable without a marker. Multiple trees can share one town or county point.
Register editions, retrieval dates, and individual measurement dates describe different things. This snapshot does not confirm current tree condition. Approximate map points do not locate individual trees or establish permission to visit.
Minnesota DNR’s current Big Tree Champions page, retrieved October 9, 2026. All 62 listed trees across 51 native species are included. Northern mountain ash and Mountain maple have empty species slots and are excluded. Multiple trees within a species are shown as co-champions by DNR’s page; every listed tree is retained.
All 62 trees use 28 approximate Census county points. Published location descriptions and ownership remain in the records; these markers do not locate individual trees. The 24 private-ownership records are labelled private. Public, Federal, or Tribal ownership does not establish visiting permission.
Circumference is in inches; height and crown spread are in feet. Total points follow DNR’s displayed calculation: circumference + height + one-quarter crown spread. The source year appears beside the nominator and is shown separately from unknown measurement dates. National champion flags are DNR’s labels, without independent confirmation. St Louis and St.Louis are normalized to St. Louis; Fairibault is matched to Faribault, with original county spellings preserved.
